Quick Greenie (1300 cfs)

Here are some pictures of the Green River. It takes a lot to get me back into Western Washington, but the Green River in June is worth the crap. We even had decent weather (for Seattle that is). As usual, click on the picture for a bigger view.

I love this sign: makes me feel like an "expert boater."

We hooked up with Lex: he brought his kayak, but felt rightly that most of the river was over his head.

One of the over 30 class III/IV rapid on this reach:

Sparky styling a big ledge drop:

Some of the amazing cliff faces along the gorge:

Falls just past the Franklin Bridge: I've never seen that much water there.

More rapids: I wouldn't want to paddle raft this section of river, it would be exhausting.

More rapids and waterfalls:

Sparky just below Paradise Ledge:

Sparky back-surfing Paradise Ledge:

The "Hanging Gardens:" Hundreds of Maiden hair ferns and other plants make this part of the gorge unique in all of Washington.
Those who haven't been there, embrace your jealousy. Between the rapids and the scenery, this is, in my opinion, one of the very best whitewater day trips around. Good luck waiting for runnable water again (at least in the summer).
